Headstone cleaning
Time and elements can take a toll on even the most enduring memorials, leaving them weathered and worn. At Saving Grace, we use gentle and effective techniques to remove dirt, moss, lichen, stains and signs of aging to reveal the original magnificence of the headstone. We pride ourselves on using methods to ensure the safety and preservation of the headstone.
We take great care in selecting the appropriate cleaning procedures and products that are specially designed for different types of stone. We will inform you of any pre-existing damage or risks associated with the restoration process before proceeding. You will be provided with a digital (or hardcopy photo if requested) of the headstone BEFORE and AFTER cleaning.
Headstone inscription and re-lettering
Re-Painting
Over time painted inscriptions on memorials can fade and flake due to a number of factors. We can restore the inscription to its original condition and glory. After cleaning thoroughly (please see our cleaning service) we carefully hand paint using only the highest quality paints designed especially for stone and withstanding the elements. We have a wide range of colours to match your original paint work.
Re-Gilding
At Saving Grace, we also offer a re-gilding service. After the headstone is cleaned thoroughly our skilled team meticulously applies 23 carat gold leaf to the inscription to bring it back to its former beauty. We also offer a specialised stone mason's gold leaf paint as a more affordable option. Feel free to reach out for more details.
Lead Lettering
Sadly the art of replacing these missing letters has almost gone with the passing of time. Missing letters can be repainted by us with a carefully matched colour. This produces great results making the inscription very readable and well presented. Please reach out to us if you would prefer to restore your headstone with the original lead lettering and we would be happy to refer you to a very select few that offer this service.
BRONZE/RSA PLAQUES
We can restore your Bronze/RSA plaques to a like new condition. We offer 2 options to suit your needs: a thorough clean followed by the application of a clear lacquer specifically designed for metals, helping to preserve the original finish and protect the plaque for years to come. Or for a more refreshed look, we can paint the background before applying the protective lacquer. Either option will enhance the appearance and longevity.
